Abstract

The research question in this paper is: “To what extent does the preference for significant or insignificant results in scientific articles matter amongst student that study in the faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences? To research this, a survey was conducted among students of the faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen. A paired t-test reveals that there is no significant difference in the preference amongst students for significant or insignificant results. A possible reason for the lack of significant preference can be found in the fact that students have been educated on the publication bias and are aware of its consequences. Further research needs to be conducted to find out whether this is the case.
