Abstract

Effortless and painless movement are important in daily life well-being. Experiencing discomfort when performing daily tasks can cause great distress, both physically and mentally. Moshe Feldenkrais developed a method that aims to increase body awareness by experimenting with new habitual movement patterns, therewith promoting desired movement behaviors. In this paper, the effect of a Feldenkrais workshop weekend on the level of perceived body awareness is examined. Results show that on group level, no significant effect was present. However, on individual some participants did seem to benefit from the Feldenkrais workshop. Group level analysis therewith did not prove suitable to discover the actual effect of the Feldenkrais workshop. A more individual approach on a longitudinal scale should be considered to further examine the effects of the Feldenkrais method on body awareness.
