Abstract
Idea-sharing is an important, however mostly overlooked, element for organizations as it allows creative processes to take place and paves the way for innovation. This paper focuses on the relationship between proactive personality and idea sharing, when moderated by LMX. Thereby, it is extending current literature by assessing a combination of situational and personal variables on idea sharing. It was hypothesized that proactive personality would positively influence creative idea sharing. Moreover, low LMX was expected to negatively influence and high LMX to positively influence the proposed relation. To assess these predictions, an online survey with 266 participants from 28 organizations was conducted. In sum, results revealed that proactive personality and LMX promote the willingness to share an idea in the organizational context. Hereby, LMX has a pronounced effect on low levels of proactive personality. Based on that, I provide recommendations that organizations can consider for improving creativity and innovation processes.
