Abstract

Navigatie op de fiets met visuele stapsgewijze informatie (Turn-by-turn) via Google Maps is vergeleken met auditieve stapsgewijze navigatie via Google Maps, Beeline As-the-crow-flies kompasnavigatie en tekstuele stapsgewijze instructies. Dertig deelnemers werd gevraagd vier segmenten in de wijk Vinkhuizen te fietsen met de verschillende vormen van navigatie. Zoals verwacht werd de mentale belasting hoger beoordeeld bij de Beeline navigatie en bij de tekstuele instructies dan bij visuele Turn-by-turn Google Maps. Voor de hypothese dat de mentale belasting lager zou zijn bij het navigeren met auditieve instructies is geen ondersteuning gevonden, de mentale belasting werd zelfs hoger beoordeeld bij auditieve Turn-by-turn navigatie dan bij visuele Turn-by-turn navigatie. De mate van frustratie werd ook bij auditieve instructies, Beeline kompasnavigatie en tekstuele instructies hoger beoordeeld dan bij visuele Google Maps. Een hogere mentale belasting kan gecompenseerd worden door langzamer te fietsen. De hogere mentale belasting ging alleen bij de auditieve instructies en geprinte instructies samen met een lagere gemiddelde fietssnelheid.
