Abstract
The thesis presents an analysis of Ireland's history of mental health services and most importantly the transition from institutionalized care to community-based care from the 1950s until nowadays. Deepening into the legislation that guided the transition, additionally analyzing the stages based on international care standards as provided by the World Health Organization's and the United Nation's reports on human rights and mental health care.
