Abstract
In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in consuming and identifying with local culture among Spanish young adults. This generation of youngsters seems to show a tendency to emphasize local culture and traditions, an issue that has not received much theoretical or empirical attention. This research aimed to explore the reasons behind this emergent connection with local culture, and how this process relates to the context of globalization. Accordingly, we conducted semi-structured interviews with eight Spanish young adults to gain an in-depth understanding into the experiences of these youth and analyzed the data using thematic analysis. We identified three themes: Re-emergence of local culture among Spanish young adults, (several) reasons for this re-emergence, and the relation between globalization and local culture. We discussed the themes in the context of the previous literature. Overall this study provides an introduction and the first theoretical base on the topic which could be used for further research.
