Abstract

Interventions for FMP focus on a wide array of life domains and their interconnections (Tausendfreund et al., 2016). Families with multiple problems (FMP) can also be defined as multiproblem families or multistressed families and they face multiple, severe, chronic and intertwined problems in different areas of life (Visscher et al., 2020). This study aims to do an analysis of practice and program elements provided by six different interventions for FMP. In identifying these practice and program elements, a distinction will be made between FMP with a child with psychiatric problems and FMP without a child with psychiatric problems. As part of identifying the practice elements in these interventions, the different recipients and manners of provision will also be looked at. This study found 7 significant differences in the provision of practice elements throughout different categories within these elements, between the different groups of FMP with a child with psychiatric problems and FMP without a child with psychiatric problems. This study also found differences in the manners of provision when it comes to the different phases of the interventions. The analysis of provision of program and practice elements yields information to identify the optimal sequence and duration of elements and in this way helps to better understand outcomes of interventions for FMP, especially when it comes to FMP with children with psychiatric problems.
