A thesis is an aptitude test for students. The approval of the thesis is proof that the student has sufficient research and reporting skills to graduate but does not guarantee the quality of the research and the results of the research as such, and the thesis is therefore not necessarily suitable to be used as an academic source to refer to. If you would like to know more about the research discussed in this thesis and any publications based on it, to which you could refer, please contact the supervisor mentioned.

Abstract

An increasing number of students use part-time employment to alleviate their financial pressure. For quite some time there have been questions if part-time employment has an influence on academic performance. The study analyzed results from a survey of 276 students in the Netherlands using a linear regression analysis in SPSS. Results indicate that part-time employed students have worse academic performance in regards to non-employed students. The relationship between term-time employment and well-being has not been found. The relationship between student activities and academic performance did not have significant results, but more active students did have a better well-being in comparison with less active students. The amount of student activities did not have an influence on the relationship between part-time work and academic performance. Methodological issues are discussed, as well as remarkable results and possible statistical trends. This study suggests the idea that the current way of measuring part-time work can be executed more broadly
