Abstract

In our daily lives, the efficiency of finding things could improve our daily life functioning. The objects in our environment consist of characteristics that bind together in our visual working memory. However, for a human to be able to detect changes, awareness of every object’s identity needs to be fully perceived. Moreover, it is yet not clear how the brain could grasp every identity of an object, which is called the binding problem. Decades of research have assessed one of the phenomena that emerges from the binding problem, Change Blindness (CB). However, one of the things which is not clear is whether the object of this study could help to detect changes in the environment. Furthermore, the importance of the context type of the object that we have searched for is not yet accounted for by previous studies. In the current study, we aimed to assess whether the effect of background and context compatibility could help increase the change detection performance. Participants with a mean age of 24.61 (N = 40) were assessed using a change detection task with background compatibility and target context as the conditions. Using the participants data after the data cleaning (N = 24), the findings of this study suggest that background compatibility of where the object is presented and the context of the object in terms of its location does not decrease participants’ performance in the change detection task.
