A thesis is an aptitude test for students. The approval of the thesis is proof that the student has sufficient research and reporting skills to graduate but does not guarantee the quality of the research and the results of the research as such, and the thesis is therefore not necessarily suitable to be used as an academic source to refer to. If you would like to know more about the research discussed in this thesis and any publications based on it, to which you could refer, please contact the supervisor mentioned.
Abstract
This thesis is a literature review with the purpose of assessing the concept of “social” in recent research on collective action in journals of social psychology. The motivation for this assessment is that the secondary literature has pointed out that modern social psychology has increasingly adopted an individualistic perspective. This thesis provides a brief overview of the criticism surrounding the lack of “social” in the field and examines a selection of articles on collective action. The conclusion is that the selected articles demonstrate an individualistic approach, consistent with the claims made in the critical literature. The significance of this thesis lies in its emphasis on the importance of critically examining key concepts, like “social,” in the field of social psychology for its advancement
