Abstract

Nowadays, educational institutions focus increasingly on students working together and interdependent in groups due to its promising beneficial outcomes. One of these outcomes is having an enhanced satisfaction with one's learning experience. To further investigate the underlying relations, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between positive interdependence and satisfaction with the learning experience in a final sample of 73 Bachelor Psychology students at the University of Groningen. A quasi-experimental design was used. In the first hypothesis, a significant positive predictive relationship was expected to be outlined between the two variables. To assess the effect of a group agreement, the results were compared to a study from last year (N = 57) where no group agreement was present. The findings indicated a significant positive relationship between positive interdependence and satisfaction with the learning experience. Thus, support for the first hypothesis was acquired. However, a group agreement did not moderate the relationship between positive interdependence and satisfaction with the learning experience. The study further emphasizes on the complexity of the various elements that influence students’ satisfaction with learning experience and underlines the need for more investigation to comprehend how a group agreement can improve students’ satisfaction with their learning experience. Keywords: Positive interdependence, satisfaction with the learning experience, group agreement, collaboration, cooperation
