Abstract

In this study, the role of temporal context on the phenomenon of change blindness was investigated. This was done trough an online experiment in which 40 subjects participated. The experiment consisted of a change detection task in which the subjects had to indicate if a change had occurred in the target object. It was expected that if an object reappeared in the second trial of a trial pair that it would be easier to correctly identify a change in the state of the target object. These expectations are based on a cognitive process called binding and its dependence on conceptional networks as described by de Vries (2004). In this experiment there was 1 reappearing and 5 new objects during each trial pair. Reappearing meaning that if the object was displayed on the first trial of a trial pair it reappeared in the second trial. The hypothesis was that if the target object would be a reappearing item it would be easier to identify a change in the state of the object. The collected data was processed so that the sensitivity d’ and the location accuracy could be calculated and through multiple repeated measure ANOVAs checked for significance. Contrary to the expectations no significant results were found
