Abstract

The number of international students has grown over the last decades and continues to do so today. International students face unique challenges. Thus, knowledge about them is becoming more relevant. This research specifically focuses on the well-being and academic achievement of international students. While existing literature emphasizes the significant influence of inclusion, this research questioned its universal positive effect and analyzed the moderating role of goals, specifically social goals and career goals. The study involved a sample of N = 131 international students. An online questionnaire was used to gather data about feelings of inclusion, well-being, academic achievement, social goals, and career goals using self-report measures. The data confirmed a positive correlation between both, inclusion and well-being, as well as academic achievement. Additionally, this research revealed a moderating influence of career goals on the link between inclusion and well-being. Further research is needed to analyze whether the effect was specific to career goals or whether it is independence from any social aspects that caused it.
