A thesis is an aptitude test for students. The approval of the thesis is proof that the student has sufficient research and reporting skills to graduate but does not guarantee the quality of the research and the results of the research as such, and the thesis is therefore not necessarily suitable to be used as an academic source to refer to. If you would like to know more about the research discussed in this thesis and any publications based on it, to which you could refer, please contact the supervisor mentioned.
Abstract
This study investigates the implementation of an innovation within a primary school group in the Netherlands. The aim of the study is to assess what the antecedents of Self-Efficacy and Motivation to Innovate are and how these are related to one another. The Job Demands – Resources Model is used as a guiding framework. We found that high Job Demands negatively affect Self-Efficacy and that high Job Resources positively affect Self-Efficacy. Job Demands and Resources were not found to have a clear effect on the Motivation to Innovate through Self-Efficacy, as Motivation to Innovate was consistently high within the sample. These results support previous research that has integrated the JD-R Model with Self-Efficacy and Motivation. The current study adds qualitative and practical evidence to the every growing body of innovation research, specifically, it adds to the literature on innovative practice within schools. Practical suggestions and implications for future studies are discussed.
