Abstract
Introduction: It has been proposed by previous research that there is a negative association between meaning in life and eating disorder symptoms. The present study aimed to replicate these findings (hypothesis 1). Furthermore, clinical perfectionism was investigated as a possible moderator between meaning in life and eating disorder symptoms (hypothesis 2). Methods: The present study utilised an online questionnaire for data collection (N= 477). Data was gathered on three self-report scales measuring meaning in life, eating disorder symptoms (on a dimensional scale) and clinical perfectionism. Results: the first hypothesis yielded significant results for the main effect between meaning in life and eating disorder symptoms (β= -,213, p = <,001). The second hypothesis yielded no evidence for clinical perfectionism as a moderator. However, a significant main effect was found between clinical perfectionism and eating disorder symptoms (β= ,376,, p< .001). Discussion: Interpretations, limitations and directions for further research were discussed. Keywords: Eating disorders, Meaning in life, Clinical perfectionism, Dimensional approach
