Abstract

This study explored the relationship between psychological safety and innovative work behavior in a field survey study among people working full-time in an organizational setting. Although I expected an inverted U-shaped relationship between psychological safety and innovative work behavior, the results suggest a trend toward a U-shaped relationship. Further, constructive controversy significantly mediated this relationship in the linear model, but not in the quadratic model. The findings also indicate a positive linear relationship between psychological safety and constructive controversy, and between constructive controversy and innovative work behavior.
