Abstract
Het doel van deze studie was om de relatie te onderzoeken tussen satisfactie van psychologische basisbehoeften (autonomie, verbondenheid en competentie) en mentale gezondheid in het kader van de Zelf Determinatie Theorie (ZDT). Hierbij wordt er verwacht dat het aantal sporturen een invloed heeft op deze relatie, waarbij meer sporturen gepaard gaat met een sterkere relatie. Door middel van een online vragenlijst over sportmotivatie zijn 285 mensen ondervraagd. Voor het toetsen van de hypotheses zijn er drie hiërarchische regressieanalyses uitgevoerd met behoefte satisfactie (respectievelijk autonomie, verbondenheid en competentie), aantal sporturen en de interactie hiertussen als onafhankelijke variabelen en mentale gezondheid als afhankelijke variabele. Geen van de resultaten bleek significant, waardoor alle hypotheses van dit onderzoek verworpen worden. Deze bevindingen suggereren dat dit onderzoek niet in staat was om de relatie tussen behoefte satisfactie en mentale gezondheid te repliceren en dat er meer onderzoek nodig is naar de invloed van het aantal sporturen op deze relatie.
