Abstract
Literature about how we judge cases of harm is still experiencing a gap regarding ambiguous cases of harm. The current study has looked into whether or not feminist identity and the gender of the third-party observer influence the perception of the severity of the situation. I expected to see women scoring higher on female and male severity scales and that the higher score on feminist identity will be associated with higher scores on female and male victim severity scales. I tested these two hypotheses with a convenient sample (N=143) and a prolific sample (N=55). The first hypothesis was supported by results, showing that women do indeed score higher on both male and female severity scares. However, there was no interaction effect found for the participant's gender and the gender of the victim. The second hypothesis was only partially supported, with a high score on feminist identity being associated with higher scores on the female victim severity scale. The limitations and findings of this study could help future research on which variables to focus on in the future.
