Abstract
Numerous studies have found that both students and teachers in academia experience high levels of stress, burnout, and compromised well-being. However, few studies have addressed well-being in students and teachers simultaneously. Furthermore, while some research has identified strategies that are important for teacher resilience, fewer studies have examined its impact on student-teacher interactions. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the conceptualization of well-being in students and teachers and explore the interaction between their well-being. To examine this, 12 university students and teachers from the Netherlands participated in semi-structured interviews. Results using qualitative analysis were consistent with positive psychology, multifaceted perspectives, and the fulfillment of BPN. The results also emphasized the influential role of resilience in shaping interactions between students and teachers. Notably, a reciprocal relationship between the well-being of students and teachers emerged from the study. Keywords: higher education, well-being, student-teacher interaction, positive psychology, self-determination theory, resilience
