Abstract
Job crafting is a relatively new topic and most of the existing literature focusses on the positive aspects of it. However, job crafting can also have negative consequences which are not yet a lot discussed in the literature. This study aims to add to this gap in the literature and examines the relationship between approach job crafting, which involves intentional efforts to find positive aspects of work and interpersonal conflict, as well as the influence that a high zero-sum mindset has on this relationship. In a cross-sectional study of N = 91 working adults, we found that approach job crafting did not predict interpersonal conflict and that a higher zero-sum mindset does not have a significant influence on this relationship. This study adds to the existing research on the positive effects of job crafting and suggest that approach job crafting is related to decreased interpersonal conflict. Lastly, this research provides new implications by studying the effects of job crafting from the coworker’s perspective.
