Abstract
The way applicants perceive recruitment methods has a significant impact on their perceptions, assessment outcomes, overall opinion, and attitudes towards an organization. Prior research has shown that the organizational justice framework is useful in assessing applicants’ reactions. However, there is limited research on the applicants’ reactions to game-based assessments and what might influence these perceptions. The current study investigates the effect opportunity to perform has on perceived fairness in a game-based assessment. In addition, the possible moderation effects of prior game experience, prior selection experience, and technological self-efficacy. A cross-sectional correlational design study (N = 105) was conducted. The results showed that perceived opportunity to perform significantly predicted perceived fairness. For all the other variables, there was no significant moderation. The study concludes that the relationship between opportunity to perform and perceived fairness is useful in gathering information about the perceptions applicants have of game-based assessments. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
