Abstract

To preserve the earth as we now know it, climate change needs to be mitigated. To do this, we need to act fast and future generations need to pursue, therefore, we should urge children to protect the environment. Environmentally friendly behaviours are called pro-environmental behaviours and are, among other things, effected by personal biospheric values and perceived biospheric group values. This research investigates the relationship between and changes within in personal biospheric values, perceived group values and pro-environmental behaviours of children from 9 to 12 years old who took part in a nature based educational program. A correlational relationship between all three factors was found. Additionally, personal biospheric to mediated the relationship between perceived group values and pro-environmental behaviours. Lastly, significant increase is found in pro-environmental behaviours and perceived group values, but not in personal biospheric values.
