Abstract

This study explored the dynamics between masculinity and perceptions of sexual attractiveness and sexual satisfaction abilities. The study is based on 316 heterosexual female participants and was conducted using a survey on Prolifics. The survey included measures on masculinity, sex appeal, and perceived sexual satisfaction abilities. Results reveal significant differences in perceived sex appeal, prioritising sexual needs of one’s partner, and perceived likelihood in discussing sex life with one’s partner, between traditional masculinity (TM) and new masculinity (NM). No significance was found in perceived sexual satisfaction abilities. The results show a somewhat paradoxical relationship between what TM value and how it is perceived. Despite limitations such as a small sample size, and focusing solely on heterosexual relationships, the research contributes to the evolving science of masculinity studies by testing novel hypotheses. It serves as an inspiration for future research and for personal reflection on the changing dynamics of masculinity in an ever-changing society.
