Abstract

Individuals that have been maltreated in childhood are at a higher risk of further victimization in adulthood. Research has long centered itself around exposing potential factors that play a role in this relationship. This study focuses on two of such potential factors; insecure attachment style and meaning in life. The primary objective of this study is to determine whether revictimized individuals exhibit higher levels of insecure attachment and lower levels of meaning in life compared to their non-revictimized counterparts, as well as explore the possible relationship between both variables. Participants were categorized into four groups: non-victimized, victimized in childhood, victimized in adulthood, and revictimized. This was done using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire short form, and the Stressful Life Events Screening Questionnaire. Then the groups were divided into two; revictimized and non- revictimized. For each of the participants in each group, insecure attachment and meaning in life was assessed using the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised questionnaire, and the Multidimensional Existential Meaning Scale. The analysis revealed a non-significant difference in insecure attachment scores between revictimized and non-revictimized individuals. Similarly, no significant difference was found in meaning in life scores between revictimized and non- revictimized individuals. Meaning in life and insecure attachment were not significantly correlated.
