Abstract
This research examines how societal perceptions of traditional and new masculinity influence sexual dynamics, challenging stereotypes and advocating for more inclusive portrayals. We conducted an experiment (n=319), where female participants were randomly assigned to traditional or new masculinity conditions, and textual descriptions characterized each prototype. Contrary to the warrior's rest theory, new masculine men were perceived as more sexually attractive, signaling a potential shift towards communicative and egalitarian relationships. While no significant differences were found in perceived sexual abilities, new masculine men were seen as more likely to communicate about sex and prioritize their partner's satisfaction then traditional men. These findings emphasize the evolving landscape of masculinity and highlight the importance of re-evaluating societal expectations for a comprehensive understanding of gender dynamics in society.
