Abstract
This study presents an instrument to assess authenticity specifically selected for neurodivergent individuals utilizing a narrative review of existing literature on measurement instruments for authenticity. The selected measurement tools were selected using criteria such as validity, reliability, usability, and sensitivity to the needs of neurodivergent individuals. An expert panel consisting of professionals from diverse backgrounds and individuals with neurodiversity evaluated the presented measurement tools ensuring sensitivity towards stigma, sensitivity/cognitive overload and applicability. Based on theoretical considerations, practical considerations, and insights from the panel discussion the Authenticity Inventory Short-Form (KGAI-SF) is presented as a suitable measurement option for assessing authenticity in neurodivergent individuals. Especially the subscales Awareness and Sensory Processing are relevant for neurodivergent individuals. Practical considerations such as the 5-point Likert scale, accessibility in Dutch, and free availability further support use in clinical and research settings. The findings from this research can contribute to understanding authenticity in neurodivergent individuals and provide a tool for further research and practice. By acknowledging and valuing authenticity in neurodivergent experiences, the overarching goal is to promote well-being among this population.
