Abstract
The study aimed to investigate whether shared leadership and trust effect employee creativity and whether trust moderates the relationship between shared leadership and employee creativity. The hypothesis was that both shared leadership and trust are positively related to employee creativity. It was hypothesized that trust will moderate the relationship between shared leadership and employee creativity in a way that it will strengthen it when the level of trust is high and weaken it when the level of trust is low. We conducted a study using a convenience sample of Dutch-speaking dyads of leaders and employees working together (N = 89) from various organizations. The members of the dyads filled in questionnaires, which were matched via a specific code. They answered questions relating to their work together, with a focus on work characteristics such as shared leadership, trust and creativity. We did not observe any significant relationship between shared leadership and employee creativity, but there was a significant positive effect of trust on employee creativity. No moderation effects of trust on the relationship between shared leadership and employee creativity were observed. Further research is needed to explain the seeming divide between these findings and the preexisting literature.
