Abstract

This paper explores the often overlooked transition of twice-exceptional (2E) individuals from education to employment. Despite a growing focus on inclusive practices, research on this transition remains scarce. Using the scoping review methodology, we examine existing literature to identify challenges and success factors in this transition. Our review reveals a paucity of direct studies on the transition of 2E individuals to work. However, we found four relevant studies focusing primarily on higher education. These studies highlight the importance of strengths-based approaches and multi-stakeholder support in facilitating successful transitions. Our findings highlight the need for tailored interventions and supportive environments, considering both individual strengths and environmental barriers. In addition, the integration of Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model with Lent’s Social Cognitive Career Theory highlights the complexity of this transition and emphasizes the importance of stakeholder collaboration. Although existing literature provides some valuable insights, significant research gaps remain. Further research is essential to develop effective interventions that bridge the gap between education and employment for 2E individuals and foster their integration into employment.
