Abstract
Currently, there is a growing interest towards more personalized care within the field of clinical psychology. However, to implement personalized care, more research needs to be done on the working elements of interventions and how they affect the dynamic process within clients during treatment. This research aims to assess the effect of the intervention element psychoeducation on the well-being of 16- to 24-year-olds with ASD in youth care. This age, characterized by significant life changes and growing independence, is a challenging time for most people, especially those with ASD. More insight into the efficacy of psychoeducation, could lead to better care, and possibly improved well-being, for these young adults. In this research, one male client (21 years old) with ASD answered daily questions about his mood, social relationships, and motivation over a period of 105 days. During this period the client received psychoeducation in therapy once. In the first month after the psychoeducation, a temporary increase in the client's mood was found, but the second month after psychoeducation the clients’ well-being was comparable to before the psychoeducation. No changes were found in the clients’ social interactions and no conclusive answer was found on how the clients’ motivation was affected by the psychoeducation. These findings led to the conclusion that psychoeducation has a temporary positive effect on the clients’ well-being. This research serves as an initial step toward a deeper understanding of the dynamic effects of psychoeducation and encourages further research on effective intervention elements in therapy. Keywords: Psychoeducation, well-being, autism spectrum disorder, single case study, temporal patterns
