Abstract

This study investigates the factors related to pro-environmental behavior (PEB) in the workplace, filling a gap in the existing literature, which focuses mainly on PEBs in the private sphere. The study builds on the VIP-model developed by Ruepert and colleagues (2016). The current study explores the direct and indirect relations to PEBs at work through an intrinsic (VIP-model) and social pathway. Data was collected from employees of a national public transport organization in the Netherlands through an online questionnaire (N = 163). The data was analyzed through structural equation modeling. The results suggest both the social and intrinsic pathway to be a good predictor of PEBs at work. This research underscores the importance of tailored PEB initiatives within organizational contexts to enhance environmental sustainability.
