Abstract
In this one wave multi source field study, we examined the relationship between shared leadership and performance, and examined if psychological safety has an effect on this relationship. Building on existing literature, we predicted that the relationship between shared leadership and performance is moderated by psychological safety. We examined these relationships with a multiple regression analysis. We collected data using a convenience sample (N=99), resulting in 99 dyadic pairs of leaders and employees. Results of this study show that there is no significant relationship between shared leadership and performance, and that psychological safety is not a significant moderator of this relationship. The results of our study do not align with existing literature. However, the current research findings do contribute to existing literature by examining this relationship using a different definition of shared leadership. For future research, it would be interesting as well as informative to add variables to this model, such as personality traits. Keywords: shared leadership, performance, psychological safety
