Abstract
Het doel van deze studie is om de relatie te onderzoeken tussen hondensport en mentale gezondheid en richt zich op de vraag of de verschillende typen van sport met je hond – gehoorzaamheidstraining, behendigheidstraining, speuren en IGP – op een verschillende manier bijdragen aan de satisfactie basisbehoeften 1) autonomie, 2) ervaren van competentie en 3) sociale verbondenheid en zodoende aan de mentale gezondheid van de hondenbezitter. Dit is onderzocht in een steekproef van 41 hondensporters die middels een online vragenlijst over sportmotivatie zijn ondervraagd. Voor het toetsen van de hypotheses is er gebruik gemaakt van een MANOVA test en een one-way analyses voor de bonferroni post hoc analyse met behoeftesatisfactie (respectievelijk autonomie, verbondenheid en competentie) en mentale gezondheid als afhankelijke variabele en type hondensport als onafhankelijke variabele. Er zijn significante resultaten gevonden tussen de verschillende type hondensporten en de behoefte satisfacties.
