Abstract
The Dutch education system consists of primary education and secondary education. In the last grade of primary education, all students receive a school advice. This advice consists of a teacher advice and an advice based on a test. The school advice determines at what level students are classified in secondary education. Setting up school advices is a very important task, because it is an indicator of what students will achieve in terms of education many years later. It is known that there are multiple people, other than the teacher, involved in setting up school advices It is not known exactly how this contact takes place and how teachers experience the various contacts regarding school advices. The aim of this study is to gain insight into the experiences of teachers with other people in relation to school advice. The research question is: "How do teachers interact with other persons regarding school advices and what role does this play in setting up the school advices?" 'Other persons’ specifically refers to colleagues, secondary education, parents and students. The sample consisted of 22 teachers who have experience in setting up school advices. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, which were analyzed using a thematic analysis. The results show that teachers have a positive experience with contacts related to the school advices. One of the limitations of the study is the high percentage of male teachers who participated compared to the target population.
