Abstract
Deze scriptie onderzoekt de identiteitsvorming van Naïma, de protagonist in Alice Zeniters roman L'Art de perdre, en plaatst deze in de context van haar familiegeschiedenis en het bredere kader van de Franse en Algerijnse geschiedschrijving. Het verhaal, verteld over drie generaties, richt zich op de vergeten verhalen van de harki's, die te maken hebben met zowel institutionele als familiale stilte, en de stigmatisering van deze postkoloniale minderheid. Door gebruik te maken van concepten als geheugen versus geschiedschrijving, collectief geheugen, transculturaliteit en postgeheugen (zoals beschreven door Marianne Hirsch), analyseert deze scriptie hoe de identiteit van Naïma wordt gevormd door de lacunes in zowel de familiale als collectieve herinnering. De scriptie toont aan dat Naïma's zoektocht naar identiteit nauw verweven is met het erfgoed van haar voorouders en het bredere maatschappelijke discours over de harki's. Daarnaast wordt de rol van literatuur als tegenwicht voor traditionele geschiedschrijving onderzocht, waarbij het boek de complexe interactie tussen geheugen en vergeten belicht.
