Abstract

Workplace-related stressors are widespread and have detrimental effects on both employees and organizations. Given their inevitability, it is essential to explore how individuals can leverage these stressors to foster personal growth and build resilience. The systematic self-reflection (SSR) model offers a framework for enhancing resilience through self-reflective processes. This study aimed to assess whether systematic self-reflection can reduce the number of workplace-related stressors experienced by employees over time. It was hypothesized that (H1) a self-reflection intervention would stabilize or decrease levels of workplace-related stressors over time, and (H2) the self-reflection group would report fewer workplace-related stressors at T2 compared to the control group. A convenience sample of N = 82 participants was randomly assigned to either a self-reflection group or a control group. Participants completed a baseline questionnaire followed by two short daily questionnaires over the course of ten workdays. No significant differences in self-reflection engagement were observed between both groups, suggesting the manipulation was ineffective. Both groups exhibited stable levels of workplace-related stressors, contradicting H1, and the self-reflection group did not report fewer workplace-related stressors compared to the control group at T2, contradicting H2. These findings indicate that the self-reflection intervention implemented in this study did not effectively reduce workplace-related stressors. Future research should explore the optimal duration of self-reflection interventions and examine how personality traits influence engagement and outcomes to improve the practical applicability of such interventions in organizational settings.
