Abstract
Raising a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents unique challenges, often resulting in heightened stress and mental health difficulties for parents. This thesis explored protective and risk factors affecting resilience in parents of children with ASD residing in Indonesia. Data were collected from 213 parents of children with ASD via an online questionnaire. Resilience was measured using the Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire, along with assessments of cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERQ-short) and coping strategies (Brief COPE). The finding indicated that household support had no significant relationship with resilience. Emotional support correlated positively with resilience, while instrumental support showed no significant correlation. Furthermore, depression and anxiety symptoms were measured with cognitive emotion regulation strategies such as rumination and catastrophizing, with the former positively predicting resilience and the latter negatively predicting it. The results highlighted the importance of emotional support and cognitive emotion regulation strategies in fostering resilience. Several implementations and directions for future research have been proposed, including the integration of social support through family-based programs, and the development of validating more measures and instruments in Indonesian and other languages.
