Abstract
This study explored the relationship between individual biospheric values, efficacy beliefs, and in-role workplace pro-environmental behaviours (WPEBs). With the mission to examine how to encourage engagement in WPEBs, we hypothesized that individual biospheric values positively influence in-role WPEBs and that this relationship is guided by the underlying mechanisms of self-efficacy and outcome efficacy. A sample of employed individuals (N = 93) completed a questionnaire which yielded a positive correlation between biospheric values and in-role WPEBs. Findings further revealed that both self-efficacy and outcome efficacy significantly facilitate this relationship, emphasising their role in translating values into action. These outcomes reinforce the importance of psychological mechanisms in fostering pro-environmental behaviour and recommend organisations that aspire to battle climate changes to put effort into identifying and reducing barriers that prevent employees from acting on their biospheric values and efficacy beliefs. We discuss relevant theoretical implications and offer suggestions for future research. This study contributes to gaining insight into the drivers of workplace sustainability and proposes practical implications for motivating pro-environmental behaviour in organisations.
