Abstract

The ongoing challenge of climate change necessitates systemic solutions, including the transition to a circular economy (CE). Circular Citizenship Behaviours (CCB), which involve actions to influence governments, businesses, and individuals toward adopting sustainable practices, represent one pathway toward achieving CE. This study examines the role of education level and biospheric values in promoting CCB aimed at the government. Drawing on Schwartz’s theory of basic values and Value-Belief-Norm theory, we hypothesize that biospheric values mediate the relationship between education level and CCB aimed at the government. Using data from 121 participants (after exclusions), we conducted linear regressions and a mediation analysis. Results revealed that biospheric values significantly predict CCB and mediates the relationship between education level and CCB aimed at the government. However, education level alone was not directly associated with CCB aimed at the government. The findings of our study contribute to the understanding of CCB and offer implications for policy and education system interventions. Future research should have a simple random sample so that the results are more generalizable.
