Abstract

In deze thesis is onderzocht in hoeverre kunstacademiestudenten de spanning ervaren tussen artistieke autonomie en ondernemerschap, twee ogenschijnlijke tegenovergestelde drijfveren. Er wordt nader gekeken hoe zij hiermee omgaan tijdens hun voorbereiding op het professionele werkveld. Op basis acht interviews met studenten van de kunstacademie Minerva komt naar voren dat deze spanning al tijdens de opleiding wordt ervaren. Studenten ontwikkelen verschillende strategieën om hiermee om te gaan, van het scheiden van artistieke en zakelijke activiteiten tot pogingen om beide te combineren of te integreren. Factoren zoals motivatie, sociale steun en financiële situatie blijken hierin mogelijk van invloed. De bevindingen suggereren dat kunstonderwijs meer ruimte zou kunnen bieden voor reflectie op professionele identiteit, praktische ondernemersvaardigheden en het leren omgaan met paradoxale spanningen die kenmerkend zijn voor het creatieve werkveld.
