Abstract

I looked into the influence of passive social media use on the mental health of participants with the use of a self-developed social media use questionnaire and the following two mental health questionnaires: 'Mental Health Quality of Life Questionnaire' (Van Krugten et al., 2022) and the 'Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences' (Hanssen et al., 2003). Specifically, I expected passive social media use to be negatively associated with mental health. Moreover, I expected the participants' level of identity integration, as measured with the 'Self-Concept and Identity Measure' (Kaufman et al., 2015), to attenuate this negative association. I did not find evidence to support these hypotheses.
