Abstract

Deze scriptie onderzoekt hoe seksueel misbruik van kinderen en gerelateerde thema's zoals grenzen, veiligheid en openheid worden gerepresenteerd in seksuele voorlichtingsboeken voor kinderen van 7 tot 9 jaar. In totaal werden negen Nederlandstalige boeken, gepubliceerd tussen 1995 en 2024, geanalyseerd met behulp van een combinatie van deductieve en inductieve thematische codering. De analyse identificeerde terugkerende thema's zoals schaamte, schuldgevoel, angst, geheimhouding en copingmechanismen, evenals variaties in karakterrepresentatie en het gebruik van anatomische terminologie. Een opvallende bevinding is dat, hoewel expliciete seksuele handelingen niet worden beschreven, waarschijnlijk vanwege de jonge doelgroep, veel boeken de emotionele en psychologische impact van misbruik overbrengen door middel van kindvriendelijke taal. Boeken beelden misbruikers vaak af als bekende of vertrouwde figuren en benadrukken de rol van veilige, vertrouwde relaties bij het mogelijk maken van openheid. Openheid vindt in de boeken nooit spontaan plaats; in plaats daarvan wordt het geïnitieerd door een volwassene die een gevoel van veiligheid creëert.
