Abstract
Abstract Sharing and promoting ideas at work is a crucial step in organizational innovation, yet doing so involves social and professional risks that may be experienced differently across individuals. The present study examined whether ambition predicts idea championing and whether gender moderates this relationship. A sample of 175 working adults completed an online survey measuring work-related ambition and idea championing. Linear regression analyses showed that ambition was positively associated with idea championing. A moderation analysis indicated that the interaction between ambition and gender was marginally significant. Simple slope analyses suggested that ambition was positively related to idea championing for men, whereas this association was not significant for women. Importantly, no overall gender differences in idea championing were found. These findings suggest that although ambition generally promotes idea championing, the extent to which ambition translates into idea-sharing behavior may differ by gender. The results highlight the importance of considering gender-related expectations when examining motivational predictors of innovative behavior at work. Keywords: ambition, idea championing, gender, innovative work behavior, moderation
