Abstract

In primary education, technologies are more and more often used. Two examples of these technologies are AR & VR. The aim of the current research is to investigate what, according to teachers, is the added value of using AR/VR in a school and for which subject in particular. Thirty teachers shared their preference for the implementation or the (possible future) implementation of AR/VR via an online questionnaire. For this study, statistical ordering and coding of the open answers is used. For example, I coded if a teacher mentions didactical or motivational aspects. The results show that teachers, who have used AR/VR in their education, see the greatest added value of using AR/VR in the following subjects: geography, history, nature & technology and math. Teachers who have not used AR/VR before in education, shared similar thoughts. However, they also see a big value in the implementation of AR/VR for the education of traffic. According to both groups of teachers, the added value was seen through practical exercises, visualizing, and an understanding of the subjects. Both groups of teachers use or would use AR/VR more often in subjects, where they see the added value. To conclude, the added value of the use of AR/VR according to teachers, are the possibilities which the technology brings to the subject.
