A thesis is an aptitude test for students. The approval of the thesis is proof that the student has sufficient research and reporting skills to graduate but does not guarantee the quality of the research and the results of the research as such, and the thesis is therefore not necessarily suitable to be used as an academic source to refer to. If you would like to know more about the research discussed in this thesis and any publications based on it, to which you could refer, please contact the supervisor mentioned.
Abstract
Although well-being has been a widely researched topic, a general concept of well-being is still not agreed on in prior literature. Especially in the university context, the concept of well-being varies, mostly taking only one factor into account. This study focuses on understanding well- being in the university context, giving a general conceptualization of it, and will analyze how students and teachers understand well-being. Based on 12 participants from different universities the qualitative research approach analyzes how well-being is conceptualized in the academic context. The main findings of this study suggest that well-being is a multi-facet construct that is not only influenced by internal factors such as resilience but also is affected by external factors for example workload, work-life balance, and special university offers. The study acts as a basis for further research on well-being in the university setting and gives a deeper understanding of how well-being is understood from the student and from the teacher's side.
