A thesis is an aptitude test for students. The approval of the thesis is proof that the student has sufficient research and reporting skills to graduate but does not guarantee the quality of the research and the results of the research as such, and the thesis is therefore not necessarily suitable to be used as an academic source to refer to. If you would like to know more about the research discussed in this thesis and any publications based on it, to which you could refer, please contact the supervisor mentioned.

Abstract

In studying the sense of agency, the sense of agency is often measured with one discrete measure to describe someone’s experience of an event that unfolds over time. It is important to measure the sense of agency continuously because it is dynamic, fluctuating over the course of an interaction. To this end, the Agency Dial, a continuous real-time measure of the sense of agency, was developed and prototyped. This device was to be tested in an ecologically valid experimental setting; measuring the sense of agency in martial arts sparring. Due to technical difficulties, the methodology was pilot tested using a functionally equivalent software, the Dynamic State Tracker. Pilot test results reveal that the sense of agency can successfully be measured continuously in real-time, in ecologically valid experiments, yielding promising results for further research.
