Abstract
Most previous research has focused on the association of clinical perfectionism and eating disorder symptoms. This study aims to replicate previous results of depressive symptoms as a mediator (Drieberg et al., 2019). Therefore, this study examined if depressive symptoms mediate the relationship between clinical perfectionism and eating disorder symptoms. This cross-sectional research consists of a non-clinical sample of men (26%) and women (71%) from the age of 16 to 67 (N= 357). Questionnaires regarding perfectionism, eating disorder and depressive symptoms were used to measure all included variables and multiple regression analysis were conducted to explore the mediational relationship. The results showed a significant partial mediation, therefore the results are in line with previous findings. This means higher levels of clinical perfectionism are associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms which in turn partially relates to more eating disorder symptoms, such as dietary restraint or purging. Future research should examine a clinical sample. Current results can help to develop better fitting prevention programs. Keywords: Perfectionism, Depression, Eating Disorder
