Abstract

Residential care is important for young people who cannot live at home due to serious family issues or behavioral problems. An alternative to this is small-scale residential facilities where up to 8 youths can stay. These facilities prioritize a stable and safe environment with personalized care and continuous support. There are always three to four permanent pedagogical staff members working with the group. The aim of this study is to examine the outcomes of youths placed in small-scale residential facility X, with an emphasis on goal achievement, stability and satisfaction 1.5 and 2.5 years after placement. A qualitative design with retrospective data are used, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine youths, their parents and the pedagogical staff. Atlas.Ti was used to conduct a thematic analysis of the data in order to evaluate goal achievement, stability and satisfaction. The results show that small-scale residential facilities offer a stable environment with consistent support, contributing to high satisfaction and effective goal achievement. This study emphasizes the value of consistent relationships and individualized care for the positive development of youths in residential care. Keywords: Small-scale, residential care, satisfaction, goal achievement, stability, individualized care, retrospective data.
